On a flight the other day, the Captain announced that a fallen soldier was on board with his wife and family, heading home to rest in Arlington. A moment of silence enveloped us all, a time to contemplate the value of a life.
They say the soldier’s fallen
but I’m not so sure they’re right.
I think our hero’s risen,
to a lofty height.
I know my eyes go skyward
to say a word of thanks
to someone who defended
my very right to life.
And though that brave young soldier
walks with us no more,
I know he’s flying high above us,
safely out of harm.
